Earrings Dreamcatcher
Huron legend of the dream catcher :
Long ago, when the world was still young, in an indigenous village, a man set out one day to hunt for food for the coming moons. He went far, crossing rivers and streams, then he saw a huge cave, and entered it with all his hopes.
In the cave, an evil spirit lurked. The man felt uneasy, and then a beast appeared. Eyes the color of blood, fur black as night, a snub nose, and fangs ready to bite flesh. The man fled, panicked, leaving his bow behind him, with a tiny glimmer of hope to stay alive.
Back in the village, the man returned empty-handed. No food, no weapons to hunt. And he was terrified at the thought of going back to hunting.
At night, he couldn't sleep. Whenever he fell asleep, he saw those two blood-colored eyes staring at him and the beast with black fur ready to devour him. The next evening, he tried again to sleep, but to no avail.
Night after night, moon after moon, the man could no longer sleep peacefully. The spirit of the beast with blood-colored eyes haunted him. Several suns passed and nothing changed.
One night, the man got up after a nightmare. He left the village and went into the forest. Exhausted, he fell asleep on the ground covered with branches. The next morning at dawn, the man woke up impressed: he had not had any nightmares. He looked up and saw a spider's web where the morning dew glistened. He did the same the next night, no nightmares. Since then, the man always fell asleep near the web which, in the morning, was illuminated by the sun's rays.
Then, he told this story to his people, who adopted this technique, thus the famous dreamcatcher was born.
