Acupressure
Acupressure refers to a traditional practice in which pressure is applied to certain points or areas of the body. In these cultural approaches, these points are associated with symbolic notions of balance, relaxation and inner harmony.
According to these traditions, specific points are linked to emotional states or symbolic representations of the body. Acupressure can be performed with fingers, hands, elbows or specially designed tools to accompany moments of calm and personal well-being.
These points are sometimes compared to reflexology zones or points referenced in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), although acupressure is a distinct practice and does not involve needles.
Reflexology
According to reflexology, the soles of the feet, the palms of the hands, the ears and the face symbolically represent maps of the whole body. Each zone corresponds, in these traditions, to associated areas of the body.
In these approaches, stimulating reflexology points is believed to accompany sensations of relaxation and comfort, according to individual perception.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the human body contains points used in traditional acupuncture practices.
Acupuncture is performed with needles by qualified practitioners and should not be confused with acupressure. In these representations, vital energy, called “Qi” or “Chi,” is described as flowing through meridians, concepts belonging to these traditions.
Approach and Sensation
Acupressure techniques are associated in these cultural practices with sensations of relaxation, release and personal comfort. Each person experiences these sensations differently, and pressure should always be adapted according to individual comfort.
Acupressure and acupressure accessories are not medical devices and do not replace professional medical advice or treatment.
