Small Tibetan Singing Bowl
**Bowl Diameter:** 11 cm
**Bowl Weight:** 330g
**Material:** 7-metal alloy
This small Tibetan singing bowl is handcrafted in Varanasi, India by traditional artisans who specialize in making Tibetan bowls.
It is made from an alloy of seven metals, each corresponding to one of the seven planets in the solar system.
The bowl comes with a wooden stick with red felt, approximately 18 cm long, which is used to make the Tibetan bowl sound and sing.
Tibetan bowls are traditional instruments used in meditation, healing, and relaxation. They are known for their soothing sounds and are often made from an alloy of seven different metals, such as gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, lead, and zinc. These metals are carefully combined to create a harmonious and unique sound when the bowl is struck or rubbed with a mallet.
It is interesting to note that although these bowls are often associated with Tibet due to their name, many Tibetan bowls are actually made in neighboring regions like India, within artisan communities, particularly in Varanasi (also known as Benares). These artisans continue ancient manufacturing techniques to create these special bowls, often used in meditation practices, sound healing, and relaxation worldwide.
**How to Make Your Tibetan Bowl Sing:**
1. **Hold the Bowl:** Place the bowl in the palm of your non-dominant hand. If the bowl is small, you can balance it on your fingertips.
2. **Grip the Mallet:** Hold the mallet like a pen, with the felted end pointing downwards.
3. **Striking the Bowl:** Gently strike the bowl’s rim with the mallet to produce an initial sound.
4. **Rimming the Bowl:** After striking, place the mallet against the rim of the bowl and start circling around the rim. Maintain even pressure and a steady speed.
5. **Listen and Adjust:** As you circle the rim, the bowl will start to resonate and sing. Adjust the pressure and speed if necessary to find the sweet spot where the sound is continuous and harmonious.
By following these steps, you can create the unique and calming sounds associated with Tibetan singing bowls.
